Frequently Asked Questions
-
In the first session, we’ll spend time getting to know you—what brings you in, where you’re feeling stuck, and what you’re hoping for. We’ll also begin to understand how you experience yourself and your relationships.
-
Yes – we provide therapy in-person in NYC and remotely across New York State. We’ll discuss which format fits your needs and circumstances best.
-
Therapy isn’t only for moments of crisis. Many people come in because something isn’t quite working the way they’d like – whether that’s in their relationships, how they feel day to day, or patterns they find themselves repeating.
It can also be a space to understand yourself more clearly, shift longstanding patterns, and feel more connected in your life. We can explore what you’re looking for in a consultation and get a sense of whether this feels like a good fit.
-
The length of therapy depends on what brings you in and what you’re hoping to shift. Some work unfolds over time as patterns become clearer and new ways of responding take root. Our goal is not to prolong therapy unnecessarily, but to support meaningful, lasting change you can feel in your life.
-
Our rates are $255/session for individual therapy and $300/session for couples therapy before insurance reimbursement.
-
Sessions are 45 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples, and take place on a weekly basis. Meeting consistently helps create momentum and allows the work to deepen over time. Longer or more frequent sessions are also available, if needed.
-
Some therapy stays primarily at the level of insight. We work directly with emotional, bodily, and relational experience as it unfolds. When we work with what happens in real time, shifts feel more embodied and less theoretical.
-
If you need to cancel an appointment, we require 48 hours notice in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged the full session fee for that appointment.
-
We are an out-of-network insurance provider and do not bill insurance directly. Many clients use their out-of-network benefits to receive partial reimbursement from their insurance companies for our services.
You’ll have access to our secure client portal where you can download superbills (itemized receipts) to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
To find out how much you may be reimbursed, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly. Here are a few questions to guide your conversation with them:
Does your plan include “out-of-network” coverage for mental health?
What is your annual out-of-network deductible for mental health benefits? Have you met any of it?
What is your coinsurance - the percentage of the session fee that will be reimbursed by your provider?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions your plan will cover per year?
Is there a limit on out of pocket expenses per year?
What is the the policy year (i.e. Jan 1 - Dec 31)? (this is to calculate when your deductible restarts)
What is the reasonable and customary fee (the amount that your plan determines is the normal range of payment within a given geographic area)? In order to find out the reasonable and customary fee, the representative may ask for a Clinical Procedure Terminology (CPT) code for the you plan to receive. The CPT code to provide them with is: 90834 (used for individual therapy) or 90847 (used for couples therapy)
Each insurance plan is unique, so gathering this information will give you a clearer understanding of what to expect. If you have further questions about superbills or the process, feel free to reach out – we’re happy to help.
